Instead your first goal in a playthrough for you should be getting established and hoarding bank, fighting is not the only way to get a good payday, exploration contracts you see pop up fairly often offer great early credits for minimal investments. There is technically no starter map, the Sector isn't some tiered map where the further from the center you are the stronger enemies there will be, factions are powerful everywhere where they have large colonized worlds.Įarly on in the game, you should limit fighting to basically only very small fleets of pirates at best, do NOT beef with the bigger factions, they run much better hardware than you even could hope to have at the start.
The first fleet in the base game you are given is just the very bare essentials, the 'bigger' ships are still very small compared to what you can encounter so fighting right at the start takes a decent amount of ship knowledge to know whether or not you can win the encounter, sure with the right setup many ships can punch above their given categories, but again that is something you'd be able to design only a fair ways after getting into a run.
